All manufacturers like GE – Wind, VESTAS, AN BONUS, NEG MICON, RE-POWER, NORDEX,
ENERCON and others do have different kind of windmills, bolt sizes and specifications
how to torque the bolts.
It depends on the tower height, diameter of the tower segments, weight, construction and bolts ifself.
Some are using Steel Tower Segments ( lots of flanges ) others are installing reinforced
concrete constructions ( max. one flange to the turbine )

 

In this little overview we show where PLARAD Bolting-Systems are still by our experience.

This overview cannot be considered as complete, because of technical modifications in the
developing departments of the manufactures and due to our new developments according
to the new demands of the rapidly growing Wind Power Industry.

 

1. Production

 : Electric DE , Pneumatic DP, Hydraulic MSX and HSX, Power Packs and Measuring Tools

Application

   - Fastening turbine to the frame

   - Assembling of flanges for the rotor blades

   - Pre- assembling hub, gear, generator, strator, motor house, gearboxes, electronic units a. s. o.

- M24, M 27, M 30, M33, M36, M 42, M 48

 

Tools to be used

DE A and DE M

    - 07, 12 , 17, 47

    - DE 45 with GMV 2 ( GE assembling Hub )

DP A

    - 07 TL, 10 TL

Hydraulic

    - VAX 06 , VAX 12 ( now IQ VAX 2 WZ 3.5 400 V )

    - MS EC 20, MX EC 45, MX EC 75, MC EC 95

    - SX 2, SX 5 with various HSX

    - MX EC 45 with GMV 2

 

 

 

 

 

Most common bolts sizes in tower installation

  - M 20 , M 36, M 42, M 48, M52, M64 ( M 64 GE – X 2 2,8 Mw )

  DE A

    - 12 , 17 ( Blade Installation )

    - 47 , 65 ( Tower Installation )

  Hydraulic

    - VAX 06 , VAX 12 (now IQ VAX 1 and 2 WZ )

    - MX EC 45, MX EC 75 , MX EC 95 and bigger

    - SX 5 with various HSX and In / Out Sockets

    - SX 2 with various HSX

    - SX 1 with HSX 130


Field-Installation-Teams are using Electric Nutrunners and Hydraulic VAX Automatic Power-
Packs with MSX for tower installation, single or better double application
Bottom flange assembly is often done with tensioners, some use hydraulic torque-wrenches also.

 

Blade assembling is also often done with small tensioners or by manual tools – if there is
space enough they use Electric Nutrunners DE 07 or DE 10


Tower flanges are assembled with DE M47 first (GE for example 2-3 months later ) the service
teams are going to check every single bolt by using hydraulic torque wrenches to prevent
loose bolts


 

 

Repairs disassembling / assembling of gears ( no pics )
This will be done with MX EC 75 and VAX 02 or 06 up to 6.500 NM to be needed to open the
bolts. Gears will be replaced after about 5 years


Conclusion
During the last years PLARAD has developed lots of Nutrunners, Hydraulic Torque Wrenches
and Power Packs accordingly to the demands of the Wind Power Industry
With this little documentation you can easily see that nearly all of our tools have been fully established
in this industry and further developments will follow.
The goal is to produce light and fast tools to save time and to ensure the best, safest and
most reliable handling for the workers.
In addition to this PLARAD is developing measurement tools for field applications
